Around the Farm

Every walk around the farm reminds us that nature works on its own perfect timetable. 

The tomatoes are finally beginning to ripen, the garlic has been harvested and we’re looking forward to digging fresh potatoes before long. Beneath the soil, the carrots continue quietly growing, while colorful wildflowers are in full bloom at both Sunnyside Up and our new property on Stormy Lane. 

The roses are absolutely stunning this time of year, filling the gardens with color and fragrance. Our lavender is also at its peak, and we’re enjoying harvesting it to create handcrafted lavender sachets. There’s something incredibly peaceful about gathering each bundle by hand, knowing those little sachets will carry a bit of the farm’s beauty into someone’s home. 

One of the greatest gifts lately has been the wildlife. Recently, two magnificent bucks quietly wandered across the back of the property, pausing long enough for us to simply stop and admire them. Around the same time, my daughter Tara welcomed another beautiful deer family onto her property. It felt like a gentle reminder that we are simply caretakers of this little piece of land and that nature has a way of showing up exactly when we need it. 

Our bunny family has also made themselves right at home. Watching them dart through the gardens and peek out from the tall grass has become one of our favorite daily moments. 

Many cultures see the appearance of a buck as a symbol of strength, grace, renewal and gentle leadership. Whether you see it as a spiritual reminder or simply one of nature’s beautiful gifts, it certainly made us stop, smile and give thanks. 

Every season teaches us something different. This month has reminded us that growth takes patience, beauty often appears unexpectedly and some of life’s greatest gifts are found simply by slowing down long enough to notice.
